A practice organised
around technical subject matter.
CLAC & Co. was founded in 2020 and works from Chandigarh and New Delhi. It is a small firm by design — 6 lawyers — built to take on regulated-industry work that usually goes to much larger practices, alongside a full-service practice before the courts and tribunals of Chandigarh.
How the firm works.
Regulator-facing
Much of the firm’s work sits in front of a regulator rather than a court — certifications, approvals, filings and clarifications before the DGCA and other technical authorities. That work rewards understanding the instrument and the process, not only the statute.
Partner-led
At 6 lawyers, matters are handled by the partner instructed on them. There is no layer between the client and the person doing the work, which is the practical advantage a firm this size has over a larger one.
Instructed both ways
The firm is instructed directly by clients, and as Indian counsel by firms outside India that need local capability on aviation, technology and cross-border commercial matters.
Two specialisms, one method.
Why an aviation practice and a technology practice sit naturally in the same firm.
Regulated assets and regulated products fail in the same places.
An aircraft and a medical device have little in common until you look at what makes each of them a legal problem. Both are approved before they are sold. Both involve a counterparty in another jurisdiction. Both are governed by a contract that has to survive a regulator’s view of it, and both go wrong in the gap between what the agreement promises and what the approval permits.
That is the gap the firm works in. It is why the aviation practice and the techno-commercial practice are run with the same discipline, and why the Chandigarh disputes practice matters to both — an enforcement problem eventually becomes a litigation problem.
